Clay For Change
Clay for Change is an initiative by the South Asian Clay Collective, rooted in the belief that coming together as a community for a good cause can create meaningful change. We believe that every small act of kindness can plant seeds of hope and healing, sending ripples that touch lives in ways we may never see.
Through this initiative, we invite South Asian ceramic artists to give back to their communities. By volunteering their time and sharing their skills, these artists help make the healing power of clay accessible to those who can benefit most, fostering creativity, mindfulness, and emotional well-being while strengthening the bonds within our community.
SACC x AUSTIN EMPTY BOWL PROJECT
The Austin Empty Bowl Project is an annual fundraiser where local potters unite to fight hunger. Handmade bowls are donated and sold, with proceeds benefiting Kids Cafe (Central Texas Food Bank) and Meals on Wheels Central Texas.
This collaboration between SACC and the Austin Empty Bowl Project was such a meaningful way to launch our Clay for Change initiative: an effort rooted in the idea of creating selflessly and giving back through the very material that connects us. That’s exactly what we hope to keep doing: bringing people together and using our shared craft to make a difference. Because when we lift each other up, we all grow.
Our first event was a huge success, and it wouldn’t have been possible without our incredible SACC members who showed up with open hearts and hands. In just six hours, over 120 bowls were thrown and trimmed. This is the power of community and collaboration. The buzzing energy, laughter, and spirit of togetherness in the studio reminded us that this is what keeps a community alive and thriving.
